Repost: Drought

A repost from last August – with the preparation of my novel for publication (almost there!) I haven’t had time to write for my blog. An even worse drought is affecting my area and much of the US this year, so I thought this poem was appropriate. Hope to be posting something new very soon! Thanks for your patience.

for the rain
there is
a pain
of thirst
in the eyes
and sighs
of the beholders.

on the dryness
there is
a deafness
to cries
for a break
and stake
in the weather.

through the storm
there is
a swarm
of being
for the birds
and words
of an awakening.

  1. I don’t remember this poem, but it’s lovely and so appropriate. The flowers and grass in my yard look so perky after last nights downfall. At last we got some rain, but we still need more…

    • Hi Ina! Hope you are well. We have had rain at last, and quite a lot of it. Watering can keep everything alive, but there’s nothing like nature’s love to refresh it and encourage it to flourish again. I can just about hear everything sighing with relief. XO

  2. I am reading this right now just as the first hurricanes of late-summer hit the coast of Mexico. Remembering the past drought and battening down the hatches to ponder every positive element of earth’s weathering.

  3. I’m hoping the drought in your area will be relieved soon, Diane. Your words are as beautiful and delicate as your painting. We’ve had some pretty good rain lately… How exciting for you to be nearing the fruition of your dream…wishes for much success for you.

    • Hi, Gayle, and thank you so much for your beautiful words! Yes, we did finally get some good downpours a few days ago, and more rain is forecasted for this weekend. Also, the evenings have cooled so there is some dew in the mornings. Nature is already responding in greening relief.

And thank you also for your good wishes for the publication of my novel. You are absolutely right about this being the ‘fruition of (a) dream’ … in fact it seems a little surreal. But I’ll take it. Blessings!

  4. Diane, this is incredibly wonderful–in every aspect–thank you so much, and God bless you (and the book!) abundantly! love, Caddo

    • Thanks, Caddo! Just sent the completed edit off to my publisher … now have to give my eyes a little rest … next step … it is formatted into book form. It feels so strange … to have a lifetime dream about to be realized. Thanks for your love and support! Blessings. Diane XO
