Win an E-Book Copy of A House Near Luccoli

A Novel of Musical Intimacy & Intrigue in 17th century Genoa

A novel of musical intrigue & intimacy in 17th century Genoa

I wanted to give my blog followers and visitors a chance to win a KINDLE or NOOK Book copy of my literary Historical Fiction, A House Near Luccoli.

All you have to do is LIKE the Facebook Page and you will be entered into a drawing. If the page reaches the next milestone of 250 LIKES, there will be two lucky winners!

If you already have a copy of the novel – and with the Holiday Season fast approaching – remember Kindle and NOOK Books may be given as gifts.

Thanks in advance and GOOD LUCK!

And thank you to those who have already supported me in this way – and a friendly reminder that if you have read the novel and haven’t written a review for it, I would really appreciate if you could post one on Amazon, Goodreads (if you are a member), and at barnesandnoble.com. Reviews really help a book’s exposure.

Repost: Like a Nuthatch

What wouldn’t you give
for that peanutty feast –
something of your shyness
at the very least?

For you have valor,
obvious in your stance,
blue-gray caped crusader
eyes fixed in a glance.

Long-billed and short-tailed,
you observe from your perch,
impatient for my hand
to shorten your search.

While head over ‘heels’
you see nothing absurd
in making a descent
to reach what’s preferred.

And then there are times
you also move sideways
with strong toes and claws that
gravity obeys.

Your voice is distinct,
tiny horns on the wind,
red-breast hardly counting
your breaths out and in.

You have a technique
that seems topsy-turvy
but finds more delights than
others more nervy.

Tapping each crevice
you find grubs and insects
that many high climbers
routinely do miss.

Despite your short wings
you lift off with some pluck
to prove, after all, you
know which way is up.

I have included this one in my Nature in Sight 2014 Calendar. The holidays are coming up, and it would make a lovely gift for someone who loves nature reflections in poetry and art.

Leavings

From Wikipedia: Acer rubrum (Red Maple, also known as Swamp, Water or Soft Maple), is one of the most common and widespread deciduous trees of eastern North America.

Red Maple 2013.pdf-Oval Fade-out

The rains last week stripped

the sky of

the soft maple’s brief

autumn blaze;

lightening its branches and

ladening the grass with

leavings like

pieces of a heart waiting to be

blown away.

??????????

This is a painting I did many many many years ago (I believe back in the 1960’s when I was a teenager and first started painting). As you can see, my style has really changed.

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends in Canada!

Simply a Memory

I think of you in song.

Also,
in stillness, when
you were alone with your thoughts that
may or may not have been of me; when
you gazed into my heart as you looked elsewhere; when
the music wasn’t yours but was
your friend.

You stood beside the pavilion
striking a pose that set you apart until
you made a space for me in your smile.
What more is there to think of than that?
