From Wikipedia: Acer rubrum (Red Maple, also known as Swamp, Water or Soft Maple), is one of the most common and widespread deciduous trees of eastern North America.
The rains last week stripped
the sky of
the soft maple’s brief
autumn blaze;
lightening its branches and
ladening the grass with
leavings like
pieces of a heart waiting to be
blown away.
This is a painting I did many many many years ago (I believe back in the 1960’s when I was a teenager and first started painting). As you can see, my style has really changed.
Happy Thanksgiving to my friends in Canada!

Such beautiful poetry and images of “leavings.” The snowstorm we had this past weekend contributed to a majority of the final “leavings” from our trees.

Thank you! I raked up a couple of acres yesterday – there aren’t too many more to come down now.

Beautiful poem, Diane – I love how the leaves, like pieces of heart, are waiting to be blown away. What a great image!
BTW, I’m still enjoying your book on Kindle – it’s so rich with description, story, and characters. All the scenes play out in my head, like watching a movie. (I have to share my Kindle, so reading time is limited – which is just as well, as it allows me to savor it.) 🙂

So nice to ‘see’ you here, Betty! And so sorry to have taken so long to reply to your comment. I MUST thank you for your lovely comment AND for reading my novel. It pleases me that you are enjoying it so! Hope you will consider writing a review when you finish it. MUST get over to your blog – have been writing some short stories for my publisher. Just finished the Holiday one today – so should have some time to catch up soon. Blessings. XO ♥

Hi, Caddo. I was struggling with a different vision of ending the poem, but that line just insisted on being the last ‘word’! You know how that is … Thank you so much, and blessings! XO
